Five things to fix on your app store page first

Before you spend on installs, make sure the page people land on is doing its job.

App Store Optimization starts with a simple fact: most apps lose people on the store page, not in the search results. Someone finds you, glances at the listing for a few seconds and decides. These five things make the biggest difference to that decision.

1. The title and subtitle

Say what the app does in plain words, and include the main keyword people search for. Clever names are fine; unclear ones cost you downloads.

2. The first two screenshots

Most people never scroll past them. Lead with the benefit, not the settings screen (this is where good UI/UX design pays off), and put a short caption on each.

3. The icon

It needs to be recognisable at thumbnail size. Simple shapes and strong contrast beat detail every time.

4. Ratings and reviews

Reply to reviews, especially the unhappy ones, and ask satisfied users for a rating at the right moment inside the app.

5. The description's opening lines

Only the first couple of lines show before "more". Use them for your strongest reason to download.

Fix these before you put performance marketing budget behind installs. Otherwise you are paying to send people to a page that turns them away.
